Below is a plot showing the first hour of wind speeds predicted by the MASS model, the 1-D SRPH model in standalone mode, and the coupled 1-D SRPH model. The problem is that the method of calculating tendencies from the comparison of the 3-D and 1-D standalone runs doesn't seem to be able to adequately reproduce the 3-D run, missing by about 0.25 m/s after only one hour. The run later diverges by several degrees Celsius, seemingly because of the problem of nonlinearity. -- Ken Waight, 8 May 2001
