MESO, Inc. is dedicated to furthering the understanding of environmental processes at the mesoscale and microscale and to applying this understanding to a variety of research and operational environmental problems. MESO believes that this goal can best be achieved by constructing, validating and applying detailed and comprehensive mesoscale and microscale environmental simulation models. The focus of MESO's work is on the earth's atmosphere. However, the coupling of atmospheric phenomena to processes at and within the earth's surface demands that these processes be included in a comprehensive atmospheric model. Thus, MESO's scope of expertise extends from traditional atmospheric science into other disciplines such as oceanography, hydrology, soil science and biometeorology. MESO's application objectives are to utilize the simulation model technology in three areas: (1) to conduct research to further the understanding of environmental processes including the dynamics of mesoscale and microscale circulation systems, the transport of natural and anthropogenic constituents of the atmosphere and the interaction of the earth's surface with the atmosphere; (2) to produce daily real-time operational simulations (i.e. forecasts) of the mesoscale and microscale environment for use in economic and social decision-making; and (3) to enhance the educational process in the atmospheric and environmental sciences.
